Software som oprør: dyne:bolic og Rastasoft
Et eksempel på en sådan ideologisk begrundelse for fri/open source-software ser vi hos Jaromil, grundlægger af Linux-distributionen dyne:bolic. I manualen læser vi i et afsnit med titlen This is Rasta software:
"This is free software, you should share it for the good of yourself and your people, respect others and let them express, be free and let others be free.
This software is for all those who cannot afford to have the latest expensive hardware to speak out their words of consciousness and good will. This software has a full range of applications for the production and not only the fruition of information, it's a full multimedia studio and has nothing to envy to other proprietary systems, because freedom and share of knowledge are solid principles for evolution and that's where this software comes from."
Brænder (eller køber) man en CD med dyne:bolic GNU/Linux og propper den i computeren, får man med andre ord et fuldt færdigt, professionelt multimediestudio, som man ikke engang behøver at installere på harddisken, idet hele operativsystemet kører direkte fra CD-en.
Og så kan det dog stadig bruges som et godt gammmeldags operativsystem, der lader dig redigere filer, gå på nettet osv. - dette indlæg skrives lige nu i dyne:bolic med Mozilla-browseren på en gammel Pentium II fra 1999 ...
